For the series of “Mouth Happy” tv commercials for Jolly Rancher I designed and created an animatronic rubber prop mouth.
The end of the commercial shows a zoomed in view of the inside of a mouth with cartoon characters bouncing around. The inside of an actual mouth can be less than attractive with veins, cavities, yellow spots, saliva, etc. – my version of a somewhat realistic but clean and pink prop was much more aesthetically pleasing.
The mouth was designed first on the computer in 3d. A rough version was 3d printed, cleaned up with clay, then molded in rubber for casting the final version. The teeth were also 3d printed, then molded and cast in a solid white resin.
