Game: Dodger

Year: 2016
This is a game called Dodger that I developed for the RGC (the Responsible Gambling Council).

I did all the programming and an artist called eBoy did the graphics. I programmed it twice – once in HTML5 for the web version of the game and one air based version for native iphone/android.

Dodger is a game that simulates what it feels like to chase gambling losses. Chasing losses is when you keep gambling to win back money you’ve already lost. You believe you’re eventually going to win, so you spend more time and money gambling even when losses pile up. No matter how hard you try, it’s a game you can’t win, just like Dodger.

The game works with touchscreens, mouse, keyboard, and gamepad inputs.
I also created a one off mini arcade unit with a joystick to play it and do internal testing / wow the client just for fun.

Prior to this project I hadn’t ever programmed in HTML5 but it was easy to learn. I ported the game from AS3 to HTML5 in about 3 days. The syntax was slightly different than flash, but at the end of the day they’re very similar.
